Samsung Might Be Wrapping Up the Galaxy Z Flip Line with the Upcoming Z Flip 8

Samsung has been hard at work perfecting what might be the last Galaxy Flip ever. When compared with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 will reportedly be even slimmer and lighter.

How Slim and Light Will the Galaxy Z Flip 8 Be?

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is already an excellent phone. According to a new leak from a very reliable source, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will weigh 180 grams. In addition, the phone will be 6.1 mm thick when unfolded.

The thickness does not include the rubber bump bezels of the screen, which will take the phone up to around 6.6 mm.

For comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is around 6.6 mm when unfolded and weighs 188 grams. So, according to the report, the Flip 8 is noticeably slimmer and marginally lighter than its predecessor.

Do These Measurements Mean Anything?

Some official measurements don't mean much in real-world use cases. According to a response from another very reliable source to this leak, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 only measures 6.1 mm when the rubber bump bezels of its screen are not included. These bumps are protective rubber feet along the bezels of the display. They absorb the impact of folding the phone and protect the screen from getting damaged.

As mentioned before, including these rubber bump bezels in the measurement takes the phone up to around 6.6 mm, which is the same thickness as the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, if you measure the Flip 7 with these bezels included, the result comes out to around 6.9 mm according to some tests. So the in-hand feel of the phone is apparently going to be of a phone that is around 6.6 mm, a marginal but mostly unnoticeable improvement over 6.9 mm. In addition, the drop from 188 grams to 180 grams is also a very small improvement.

Design and Hardware Upgrades

Also, the design will be unchanged. Though small hardware upgrades will make the Flip 8 a better phone than the Flip 7 on paper, you would be perfectly happy with the latter if you decide to get that instead of the new phone that will come out this month.

Samsung Feels Like It’s Done with the Flip

Looks aren't everything, Samsung. There's more to do yet. According to some reports, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 might be the last Flip phone from Samsung because the company feels like it has perfected this form factor. Reports from within the supply chain have warned that no designs or plans for a Galaxy Z Flip 9 have come in from Samsung. Normally, when a model is this close to release, the initial plans for its successor start getting sent to suppliers by Samsung. There is, according to Samsung, no more.
