Oppo's find n6: is this the foldable crease killer?
The foldable phone market is about to get a serious shakeup. Oppo has just dropped a tantalizing teaser video showcasing the Find N6, and the claims are bold: an ultra-flat display, unprecedented flexibility, and raw power. But the real buzz surrounds something even more compelling – a near-invisible crease – potentially leapfrogging both Samsung and Apple in the race to eliminate this long-standing foldable annoyance.
The crease conundrum: a battle for screen supremacy
For years, the crease on foldable displays has been an unavoidable compromise. While Samsung and Huawei have made strides, the prospect of a truly seamless folding experience has remained elusive. Rumors have swirled for the past year about Apple’s own foldable ambitions, with the 'iPhone Fold' reportedly aiming for a crease-free display by 2026. However, Oppo’s early reveal suggests they might be getting there first. The video, short as it is, showcases a device with remarkable flatness, hinting at a display Technology that could redefine the category.
Let's be clear: I’ve been perfectly content with the crease on my Find N5. It’s a minor quirk in an otherwise impressive device. But the possibility of a virtually undetectable line? That’s a tempting proposition, even for a seasoned foldable enthusiast like myself.
Beyond the screen: power and photography
The Find N6 isn't just about the display, though. Oppo is touting an Ultra Flat design paired with Ultra flexibility and, crucially, Ultra power. The teaser confirms a 200MP Hasselblad-powered camera – a significant upgrade – and the inclusion of an Oppo AI Pen, adding stylus functionality to the mix. Under the hood, we’re expecting the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, ensuring blistering performance. And, as is standard for Oppo’s flagship offerings, a massive battery is a given.
The phone’s appearance in the teaser reveals a remarkably thin profile, seemingly thinner than the already sleek Find N5, which boasts a 4.21mm unfolded chassis. The launch, slated for March 17th in China and select international markets (but not the US), promises a titanium and orange color scheme, further elevating the premium feel.
A global rollout – with a catch
According to tipster Yogesh Brar, the Find N6 will debut on March 17th, expanding its availability beyond China to include parts of South Asia and Europe. However, US consumers will unfortunately miss out on the initial release. While finding and adapting a global ROM can be a workaround for some, it's hardly ideal.
The question now is: will the Find N6’s alluring crease-less display and impressive specs be enough to entice users to upgrade from their existing foldables? Perhaps more importantly, will Oppo finally disrupt the foldable market dominance currently held by Samsung?
