Google Clock App Receives UI Update: Streamlined Timer Interface

Google has quietly rolled out a significant update to the Google Clock app, focusing on improvements to the timer user interface. The changes, part of version 9.1, aim to enhance usability and provide a more efficient way for users to manage multiple timers simultaneously.

Key UI Modifications

The most notable change is the removal of the circular background previously used to highlight the numerals on the timer keypad. This has been replaced with a sharper, more defined numeral set, improving readability.

New Preset Timer Options

To expedite timer setup, Google has introduced preset options for common durations – 1-minute, 5-minute, 10-minute, and 15-minute timers. These presets are designed to quickly initiate timers when a user is in a hurry.

Improved Timer Overview

Users can now easily view all active timers at once by swiping down from the top of the timer screen. This action reveals a grid view of all timers counting down, eliminating the need to swipe individually to access each one. This new feature significantly reduces the time needed to monitor multiple timers.

Rollout and Availability

The update is being rolled out server-side, meaning users may need to update their app through the Google Play Store to receive the changes. As of this writing, the update is not yet visible on all devices, with some users, like those running the Android 17 QPR1 Beta on a Pixel 6 Pro, still awaiting the UI update.
